Happy Birthday Jake

You were one of my heroes growing up.  I ran to WWE to watch you as I escaped and hid from bullying and abuse.  I was scared. I was angry. I was hurt.  Thank you for your many years of being on the road, living your persona, and pouring into my life.   You helped me get through a lot as a kid.

More importantly, thank you for sharing your story as a man.  Your life. Your journey.  All of it. The good. The bad.  The beautiful. The ugly.  The joy and success.  The hurt and pain. 

Thank you for being brave and vulnerable in this world.  Your story has touched my story and made my life better.  I am changing my family tree in many ways, and I owe so much to you, “Jake The Snake Roberts.”

Be proud of yourself.  Be proud of your story.  Keep sharing it.  Keep being you.  

This pearler bead figure to the right was made by my son Riley.  This sits on my bookshelf in my office.  It is a reminder everyday to thank my heroes and to be a hero to others who are where I was.
